I love Combier’s wines — there’s a humility to them. Like most Crozes, this is richer in texture than the syrah you might find in the more esteemed appellations of the northern Rhône. But this has so much depth alongside the heft. Incredibly complex nose, with everything from dark flowers to a ton of fruit to black olive. The tannins are so fine — almost pinot-like in their silkiness, bringing great length without drying. This is a jewel of a syrah.
